Mid-week rain forecast for parts of Jamshedpur, IMD predicts rise in temperature

Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rainfall in isolated parts of Jharkhand during mid-week, bringing a brief respite from the soaring temperatures. However, the relief is expected to be short-lived, as meteorologists predict a subsequent rise in maximum temperature.
According to a bulletin issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre, light rain is expected in western Jharkhand on Wednesday, April 2. The rainfall activity is likely to extend to parts of central Jharkhand on Thursday, April 3. The showers, however, will remain scattered and are not expected to bring widespread relief.
“The rainfall will be localized and not significant enough to have a major cooling effect,” an IMD official said. “It will mainly be due to local atmospheric disturbances, and no strong weather system is currently influencing the state.”
Despite the forecasted showers, meteorologists have cautioned that no significant dip in temperatures is expected. The IMD predicts that the maximum temperature will remain stable for the next two days before rising by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius later in the week.
Southern and some northern districts have been recording maximum temperatures between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius.  Central Jharkhand, including Ranchi and surrounding areas, is experiencing relatively lower but still warm conditions, with daytime temperatures hovering between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius.
The fluctuating weather pattern is expected to impact daily activities across the state. Farmers, who are currently preparing for the upcoming Kharif season, may find some relief from the light showers. However, the dry spell following the rain could lead to increased water demand.
Residents of urban areas, especially in steel and industrial hubs like Jamshedpur, Bokaro, and Dhanbad, are bracing for hotter days ahead as rising temperatures coupled with high humidity levels could make conditions uncomfortable. Health experts advise people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, particularly during peak afternoon hours.
Despite high temperatures, the IMD has not issued a heatwave alert for Jharkhand. However, experts warn that temperatures could reach heatwave levels if the current warming trend continues. Authorities have urged people to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Meanwhile, power demand in the state has already started rising, with increased use of cooling appliances. The Jharkhand State Electricity Board has assured that power supply will be stable, but residents in rural areas have reported intermittent power cuts.
The IMD has also provided an extended outlook, predicting that Jharkhand will experience hotter and drier conditions in the coming weeks, with only occasional spells of isolated rain. If this trend continues, pre-monsoon showers may arrive later than usual.
