Jamshedpur: The principal of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Dr AC Akhouri today paid a surprise inspection visit to the various departments at MGM Hospital and show-caused doctors found missing from the OPDs and other departments.
During inspection, Dr Akhouri found that there was no senior doctor in the orthopaedic and surgery departments, save for some junior doctors. He also found that the anaesthesia department was closed.
Taking the matter seriously, the principal said that the anaesthesia department should be kept open even if the doctor concerned was busy performing surgeries. He issued show-cause notice to the doctors of surgery, orthopaedic OPD and anaesthesia departments seeking explanation for their absence within three days.
Dr Akhouri was accompanied by the superintendent of MGMCH Dr Vijay Shankar Das.
During his visit, Dr Akhouri inspected the model operation theatre in the hospital and found that there were no instruments and equipments related to anaesthesia. The door was also found to be not working. At this, Dr Akhouri directed the officials concerned to make prompt improvements in the situation and start the OT.
The principal said that the doctors were not supposed to make their attendance when they were absent from duty. During the inspection, he found that one doctor was found absent from duty. Later, it was found that the said doctor had got his attendance marked for the same day. For this, a show-cause notice would be issued to the said doctor, said Dr Akhouri.
Sources said that Dr Akhouri had received complaints regarding the OPD and several departments found closed and many doctors remaining absent from duty. Hence the inspection visit was paid to conduct an inquiry into the allegations, sources said.
