Jamshedpur, July 25: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy Monday termed the suspension of MGM Hospital Superintendent Dr Arun Kumar just five days before his retirement as an arbitrary decision of the state health department.
Alleging that the suspension order was guided by ill-will, Roy sought a clarification from the state Health Minister Banna Gupta on the issue. In a statement issued today, Roy said, “Dr Arun Kumar was suspended just five days before the due date of his retirement and that too, without informing him about the charge against him or issuing show-cause notice and waiting for his reply. This is clear violation of the normal administrative procedure and is totally against the principles of natural justice.”
Roy said the Health Minister had suspended Dr Arun Kumar without giving him the opportunity to defend himself. The Health Minister should reveal as to what was the fault of Dr Arun Kumar that led a senior doctor like him to get such punishment, he said, adding further, “Dr Arun Kumar was made the Superintendent of MGMCH despite not having the qualification to become a Professor in the medical college. He had retired on 31st January 2022, but was given a service extension of six months by the Health Minister. What went wrong which led the Health Minister to suspend him in such a hasty manner?”
