Jamshedpur: The Jharkhand government has initiated disciplinary proceedings against 12 Assistant Professors appointed to government medical colleges across the state for failing to join their assigned posts despite receiving appointment letters.
The Department of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare has issued a final public notice directing the doctors to submit their explanations by July 28, 2026, failing which their appointments will be cancelled with immediate effect.
Among those named is Dr. Rohit, an Assistant Professor appointed to the Dental Department of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College Hospital in Jamshedpur, who has reportedly not assumed charge despite considerable time having elapsed since his posting.
The move comes at a time when MGM Medical College is already facing an acute shortage of faculty members, an issue that has repeatedly surfaced during inspections by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The continued absence of appointed faculty has affected academic activities as well as patient care, particularly in specialised departments.
Under Secretary Anand Kumar Sinha stated that no claims or explanations would be entertained after the July 28 deadline. If the concerned doctors fail to submit their responses and supporting documents within the stipulated period, the government will proceed with cancelling their appointments. Besides MGM Jamshedpur, the affected appointments include medical colleges in Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Palamu and Dumka.
