Meteorological department issues alert of heavy rain in Kolhan region

Jamshedpur, July 10: The meteorological department on Sunday issued an alert of heavy rain over south and central Jharkhand owing to a low pressure and an associated cyclonic circulation.

The Ranchi meteorological office also issued warning of heavy rain in places like Chaibasa, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan,. Rainfall of over 60 mm is expected in all these places, which come under south and central Jharkhand.

Upendra Srivastava, a senior official at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre said that a low pressure�area has formed over Jharkhand and adjoining areas of north Odisha.

This along with an upper air cyclonic circulation over Odisha and adjoining areas of Gangetic Bengal and north-west Bay of Bengal will result in a good spell of rain over south and central Jharkhand in the next 48-hours,” said
The Met official said that though the monsoon trough has drifted towards the north but the sudden formation of twin weather systems would result in a good shower show� over the state.

An official said the wind pattern was creating conditions for rain. “We are expecting rainfall activity over Jharkhand in the next 48-hours due to confluence of northerly and southerly winds,” he predicted.

Today, the sky remained overcast through the morning in Jamshedpur and its neighboring districts like Seraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum and several hilly areas of the region. The sun was visible only around noon.

However this time administration is planning to take preventive measures pre-hand so that horrors of the flood are not repeated.�We are working on a strategy to coordinate in such a way that the there is no nengetive impact of rains in the city. The meeting was called for making policies and framing rules to deal with calamities.

We would examine the city�s needs for drainage, construction of embankments and any other measure required to handle floods,� saidan official.

�The weather condition is likely to remain largely the same at least for next couple of hours and rains will continue,� said officials at the Patna met office.
