Met department predicts more rainfall in Kolhan

Jamshedpur, May 13: Kolhan can look forward to more rains as a depression is brewing over the Bay of Bengal, said Weatherman today.

“As per our study the influence of a cyclonic circulation over south Andaman Sea a low pressure area  has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal.  An associated cyclonic circulation is extending upto mid-tropospheric level. It is very likely to concentrate into a depression over central parts of  south Bay of Bengal on May 15 and further intensify into a cyclonic storm by May 16, ” said an official of IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Meanwhile, several places in central and north eastern Jharkhand today witnessed thundershowers activity triggered by a low pressure trough over western Madhya Pradesh. The Met department had issued as many as five nowcast (  short-term forecast ) for thundershower activity in various districts this afternoon.

Weathermen said most districts of Jharkhand would get rain from tomorrow due to the impact of the low pressure. “The rainfall during the new  few days would help in reducing the deficit by three to four per cent, ” said a duty officer

In the past 24 hours only a few IMD observatories including Jamshedpur and Ranchi reported rainfall.  Farming in Jharkhand is completely dependent on monsoon because of lack of irrigation facility and farmers’ inclination for cultivation of paddy which requires adequate rainfall. Advising the farmers to stop transplanting paddy, an official said that in case they continue to go for transplantation, they must put more than one sidling and reduce the quantity of fertilizer.
