Mercury to soar: Jamshedpur likely to touch 41°C on April 21

Jamshedpur: The residents should brace themselves for a scorching Monday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a maximum temperature of 41°C for April 21. With a mix of high heat and chances of thunderstorms, the city’s weather is expected to remain volatile under the influence of a regional cyclonic system.

According to the IMD, a significant East-West trough is currently active, stretching from central Pakistan and adjoining northwest Rajasthan all the way to Bangladesh, southern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal. This system is expected to have a tangible impact on the weather conditions across Jharkhand.

For Jamshedpur, the weather department has predicted partly cloudy skies throughout the day, with possibility of thunder and light rainfall due to the active trough line. While the heat remains the dominant feature of the forecast, the cloud cover may provide temporary relief in some parts of the city.

The minimum temperature in Jamshedpur is likely to hover around 25°C, while the maximum temperature could touch 41°C, making it one of the hottest days of the season so far. On Sunday, April 20, the city witnessed partly cloudy skies, and similar patterns may continue on Monday with chances of isolated rain or lightning activity.

In the state capital Ranchi, weather conditions are expected to remain more stable. The IMD has predicted clear skies for Monday, with a maximum temperature of 37°C and minimum temperature around 23°C. On Sunday, the city experienced partly cloudy skies, with scattered regions reporting light showers and thunderstorm activity.

While Ranchi may not face the same level of heat stress as Jamshedpur or western parts of the state, the rising mercury is still a cause for caution, especially for outdoor workers and vulnerable populations.

Among the hottest spots in the state will be Daltonganj, where temperatures are expected to soar to a blistering 42°C on April 21. The region witnessed clear skies on Sunday, and the IMD does not expect any significant weather changes on Monday either.

With dry and clear conditions likely to prevail, residents of Daltonganj and the wider Palamu region are advised to take precautions against heat-related health issues. The minimum temperature is expected to remain at 23°C.

The IMD has advised citizens across the state, particularly in high-temperature zones like Daltonganj and Jamshedpur, to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours and stay well hydrated.

Farmers and daily wage workers are also being cautioned to monitor updates for any thunderstorm alerts, especially in areas under the influence of the East-West trough.

As summer intensifies and temperature trends point upward, the coming days may see more frequent episodes of heatwaves and sporadic thunderstorms, characteristic of the pre-monsoon season in Jharkhand.
