Jamshedpur: In a bizarre incident, a mentally deranged man allegedly killed five members of his family at Pudisili village under Kopali police station in Saraikela-Kharswan district on Saturday. The assailant was identified Chunnu Manjhi ( 30), who killed the members of his own brother�s family. He used a dagger to hack them to death.
Those killed were: Ravi Manjhi ( 45), Parvati Manjhi ( 35), JItendera Manjhi ( 14), Suresh Manjhi ( 12) and Paresh Manjhi ( 10). According to information, the family members were in deep slumber when the assailant targeted them.
During the act he also injured his mother Guruwari Manjhi ( 70) and his younger brother Sidhu Manjhi ( 25).
�The assailant was immediately arrested. As per our initial probe, Chunnu seems to mentally disturbed. On Friday he even tried to kill his own wife, but she managed to escape by shutting herself in a room,� said a police official.
He informed that the assailant after killing them also put his house and his brother�s house on fire. He went on to add that those killed were sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem while those injured were rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital.
