Men of Steel arrive in Kolkata, gear up for East Bengal clash

Jamshedpur, Feb 26: The Men of Steel have landed in Kolkata, ready to take on East Bengal FC in a highly anticipated match tomorrow, February 27, 2026, at 5 PM at the VYBK Stadium. Riding high on two consecutive wins, Jamshedpur FC is looking to keep the momentum going against their formidable opponents.

The clash promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams boasting impressive line-ups. Fans can expect a high-intensity battle as the Men of Steel take on the hosts, East Bengal FC.

The clash will mark Jamshedpur’s first away outing of the campaign and could prove pivotal, with both teams sitting on six points from their opening two matches.

The Men of Steel have made a strong start to the season, grinding out two narrow but important victories. Jamshedpur opened their campaign with a 1–0 win against Mohammedan SC before edging past Punjab FC by the same scoreline in their second match. The back-to-back wins have not only given them maximum points but also two clean sheets, highlighting the defensive solidity that has characterised the team’s early-season form.

Head coach Owen Coyle acknowledged that victories in a short ISL campaign are vital, even if they come by slender margins.

“It is very difficult to win any game in the ISL. If you look at the league table you will see how thin the margins are. In the last game we won with just one goal but we have also not conceded a single goal, which is not an easy feat. The lads have done a fantastic job and earned six points for the team,” Coyle said.

The Scottish coach admitted that while the results have been positive, the team continues to work on improving its attacking output.

“Everybody likes winning by three or four goals, but that’s not always possible. Against Mohammedan we created a lot of chances, while against Punjab we probably should have created more. But you also have to give credit to the opponent because teams try to limit your opportunities,” he added.

The upcoming clash will see Jamshedpur face a confident East Bengal side that has also begun the campaign in emphatic fashion. The Kolkata outfit registered a commanding 3–0 victory over NorthEast United FC before following it up with a 4–1 win against Sporting Club Delhi, showcasing their attacking firepower early in the season.

Coyle expects a demanding contest against the historic Kolkata club, which has strengthened its squad significantly.

“When we travel to Kolkata to play East Bengal, we must make sure we are at our very best against a very good side,” he said. “East Bengal is a fantastic club with a proud history and heritage. They have invested heavily to get back to their former glory, so we must make sure we are the best version of ourselves.”

The Jamshedpur coach also emphasised the importance of maintaining the team’s defensive base while continuing to improve their attacking play.

“We need to create more chances, particularly as we did in the first game, and be more clinical. But equally, we must make sure we keep that strong defensive base,” Coyle said.

Midfielder Pronay Halder echoed the coach’s sentiments, highlighting the team’s focus and mindset heading into the high-profile encounter.

“East Bengal is an exciting team and it’s a fantastic football arena to play in,” Halder said. “We are taking it match by match. If you want to be champions, you must face great teams. We are concentrating on ourselves and if we implement the coach’s plans on the ground, hopefully we will get a good result.”

The match also carries an added subplot, with two Jamshedpur attackers Messi Bouli and Madih Talal set to face their former club after representing East Bengal last season.

History suggests that meetings between the two sides are rarely straightforward. The teams have faced each other 10 times in the ISL, with three wins for JFC while East Bengal has four wins and three matches ending in draws, underlining how balanced the rivalry has been.

With both teams enjoying perfect starts to the season and the stakes high at the top of the table, the encounter in Kolkata promises to be a compelling battle as Jamshedpur FC look to continue their winning momentum away from home.

The match will be live on Fancode app and Sonly Live Network from 5 PM onward on February 27th.
