Jamshedpur, June 4: In a bid to enhance the facilities and make it a state-of-the art organization, Muslim Library managing committee has called a general body meeting on July 14.
The 1932 organization which currently has 350 life members and 1000 general members on register is planning to provide ID cards for the members who will be attending the meeting. Several of the life and monthly members have not visited the Bistupur situated Library for years and reason given was that they might have passed away or have left Jamshedpur.
‘Around half of the life members have not been updated for years and the invitation sent to their homes for the program, came back in the library. This means most of the members are not present in the city or have passed away’, said Hidayatullah Khan, president of Muslim Library.
Addressing a press conference at the Library on Saturday, Khan said, through notice in several newspapers, we had appealed the members to fill up the updating form (Address, mobile no. and photographs) but we received very poor response as only 110 members visited the library.
Now we have decided that those monthly members who have not paid their dues since 31 Dec, 1999 can pay their monthly charges without fine and instead of 5th June, the last date for paying the fee has been extended till June 15, added Hidayatullah Khan. The committee has decided to cancel the membership of those who don’t turn up for four consecutive month.
He appealed the members to submit the filled-up updating form by June 15 so that the new register should have their names and they can be invited for July 14 meeting. Md. Imteyaz Ahmed, general secretary of the Library, said, the updating form is available at the library’s office from 9.30am to 3.00pm during the month of Ramadan and the library remains closed on Friday.
‘We will take decision about adding new members and renovating the library which includes setting up of conference hall and other state-of-the-art facilities in one of the oldest organization of Jamshedpur, during the general body meeting’ noted Hidayatullah Khan. Also present at the press conference was Zubair Alam, Joint Secretary, Javed Ashraf Vice-president, Ayub Siddique, executive member, Maqsood Khan and others.
Set up in the year 1932, Muslim Library boasts more the 17000 books of education, religion, competition and others. Apart from members, books are also available for students free of cost.
