Banna Gupta felicitates winners, tries hand at badminton
Jamshedpur, Dec. 5: Media Cup badminton tournament organized by Press Club of Jamshedpur concluded in Mohan Ahuja Stadium, near JRD Tata Sports Complex, on Sunday. Final match in different categories were played on December 5.
Pankaj Mishra was declared the winner of men’s singles while Shubhdarshi was the runner-up.
Men’s doubles competition saw Pankaj Mishra and Shubhadarshi being crowned the winner while the pair of Md Akbar and Vinay Purti was declared runners-up.
In the senior citizen category-Rangadhar Nanda was crowned the winner. In the senior citizen doubles match Uma Shankar Dubey and Nagendra Sharma were runner-up.
60 media personnel participated in the two-day tournament. Film director Iqbal Durani and Editors of newspapers, Orient Labor Company proprietor Azhar Hoda, President of Press Club of Jamshedpur Prashant Singh, Anjani Pandey and others were present.
Health Minister Banna Gupta was present as chief guest during the closing ceremony. He awarded the winners and runner-up. Banna also tried his hands at badminton.
Later, addressing the gathering, Jamshedpur West MLA encouraged the players and said that winner always stays ahead but the runner-up of today is winner of future.
Sporting activities had come to a halt for the last 18 months due to Covid-19 outbreak but with things getting normal, these types of events paves way for journalists to come out of their busy schedule and do something new and also display their hidden talent.
It may be noted that first Media Cup Badminton Tournament hosted by Press Club of Jamshedpur was inaugurated by the chief guest Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda on Saturday, December 4 in presence of City SP Subhash Chandra Jat.
