Jamshedpur, March 6: A two member team of Medical Council of India (MCI) visited the MGM Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. It went to the hospital at Sakchi early in the morning and thereafter visited the college campus at Dimna.

The Principal of MGMCH Dr A C Akhouri said the MCI team has come to observe the ongoing MBBS final year examination which began today. He said the team will be staying in the city for the next two days.

The MCI team comprises Dr Sidharth from Siliguri and Dr Ajay Kumar from Kolkata.
During the inspection, the MCI team visited the gynaecology and paediatrics wards of MGM Hospital to find out facilities available to patients.

The team also went to Medicine, Surgery and other departments. Later, the team went to the medical college and held a meeting with the Principal and heads of all departments.

Sources said the team would also visit the college and hospital tomorrow.
MGM Hospital is a government run hospital with the facility of 540 beds. Everyday around 1000 patients come here for treatment.

Sources said the team would also be finding out whether the college and hospital are complying with the mandatory norms laid down by the MCI. Once it is confirmed that the MCI norms are being followed, the top medical body would confirm the increase of 50 MBBS seats approved for MGMCH.

Earlier, there were only 50 MBBS seats at MGMCH. Five years ago, the seats were increased by 50. Currently, final exams are being held for the five year old batch.
