May Day observed with fervour, trade unions take out rally

Jamshedpur: The International Worker’s Day ( May Day) was observed with great gusto across the district by all major trade union representatives on Friday.

The leftist trade unions All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) observed the day by taking out a rally from the city on with the participation of hundreds of workers from the district.

Various trade union units also celebrated the day by hoisting their union flags at their local units across the city and outskirts throughout the day.

The main topics discussed at the meeting included the need to ensure the protection of rights of the migrant labours apart from slamming the state and central governments for policies leading to price rise of essential commodities.

Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh organised a function at Bhuiyandih. Patron Dulal Bhuiyan said : “The governments are not formulating its economic policies for the betterment of the ordinary people but to favour the corporate lobbies. We have been going through a difficult phase of hikes in the prices of essential commodities. We will have to suffer more as there are indications of hikes in power tariff and bus rates etc”.

The communist leaders and cadres first assembled near Sakchi then took out a processing carrying red flags and banners. The meeting also pointed out that the left party trade unions would ensure that the state government and the labour department are forced to implement labour laws to ensure the protection of rights of migrant labourers employed in various sectors here in the district.

JMM also organised blood donation camp at Red Cross Building. On the occasion, JMM MLA Kunal Sarangi, leader Mohan Karmakar participated. Addressing the gathering the leaders said that labour laws are being diluted in order to benefit corporate sectors.

Contract and outsourcing system in job sector is pushing the working class towards insecurity and a united struggle is necessary to reverse such policies, he said.
