Jamshedpur: A massive fire broke out at a closed Incab Industries in the Golmuri police station area of Jamshedpur on Sunday, creating chaos and panic among locals. The fire, which led to multiple explosions inside the factory premises, caused significant damage, including the collapse of several large walls.
The blaze was first reported around midnight, prompting the immediate dispatch of eight fire tenders to the site. Firefighters faced severe challenges due to the factory’s dark, abandoned state and the presence of large walls obstructing access. Efforts to control the fire are ongoing, with senior district officials, including City DSP Vinod Singh, overseeing the operation.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the fire was accompanied by loud explosions, which shook the surrounding area. Local residents gathered near the site, expressing concerns over the incident. Many accused the district administration of negligence, alleging that repeated incidents of theft in the closed factory had gone unchecked. Some even speculated that the fire might have been deliberately set to cover up evidence of these thefts.
“This factory was once seen as a beacon of hope for the unemployed youth of Jamshedpur. Now, its closure and this fire have dashed those hopes,” said Shiv Shankar Singh, a local resident.
Another resident, Prem Jha, criticized the administration, stating, “Had the authorities acted on prior complaints of theft, this disaster could have been averted. This fire has caused enormous financial losses.”
Preliminary estimates suggest that assets worth crores have been destroyed, but the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Investigations are underway, and officials have assured that the situation is under control.
City DSP Vinod Singh addressed the media, saying, “We have cordoned off the entire factory campus. The fire is being brought under control, and a detailed investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the incident.”
The once-thriving wire factory, which locals hoped would resume operations and provide employment to thousands, now lies in ruins. The incident has sparked a debate about the role of the administration and the urgent need for better security measures in abandoned industrial properties.
