Mass tree plantation drive marks World Environment Day in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 5: Join the race to make the world a better place � this year theme/ slogan by United Nations on World Environment Day 2016 gels well with citizens� campaign – Zimmedaar Nagrik Zimmedaar Shaher � Aapke saath lets make Jamshedpur Clean, Green Safe and Smart.

As part of Tata Sustainability Month, Jusco organized a series of events during the month starting from on 5 June 2016. The objective was to create awareness for a mass movement to plant trees, take ownership and reasonability and to make Jamshedpur � a Cleaner, Greener, Safer and Smarter City.

The day started with Tree Plantation at Joggers Park, Sonari at 6.00 am where Capt. Dhananjay Mishra, Sr GM (JTO) planted saplings along with the members of Joggers Park and residents of that area. At Beldih gram Mrs Ruchi Narendran was welcomed by the residents of that area where she planted trees and spent time with the locals.

The main event on 5 June 2016 was the Mass Tree Plantation Drive near Garabasa Road where more than 600 tree saplings (Teak sapling) were planted by the citizens of Jamshedpur. Bidyut Baran Mahato, Member of Parliament, Jamshedpur was the Chief Guest while Suresh Kumar, VP (Shared Services), Tata Steel was the Guest of Honour.

Ashish Mathur, MD, Jusco along with Senior Management team of Jusco represented by Capt. Dhananjay Mishra, Sr, GM (JTO), Deepak Kamath, Sr GM (SS), Mr A P Singh, DGM (CR&CC), Arun Vidyut, Chief DM (PH&HS), Dr Manoj Biswal Chief Manager, HS, were present and planted saplings.

Prabhakar Singh, Gl Secretary, Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce & Industry was also present and planted teak sapling. S K Pati, Chief Environment, Tata Steel along with his team members participated in the event. Mukul Choudhary, Head TFA & Sports and Cadets of Tata Football Academy and Tata Archery Academy activity participated and planted more than 100 teak saplings. SP Singh, President, Kendra Varisht Nagrik Sangh with his members participated in the tree plantation drive.

The area where tree plantation drive was organized was earlier encroached by illegal car washing agents who use to tap the waterline and waste scarce drinking water. Also, the entire road stretch was encroached by illegal garage and heavy vehicle parking. Jusco with the help of local administration removed the illegal structures and car washing agents and developed a plan to convert the area into green zone.

In the last financial year JUSCO had planted more than 15000 trees across the town to increase the green coverage. This year also JUSCO has plans to plant One Lakh Fruit (Mango, Lychee, Orange, Guava, Jackfruit, etc) saplings across town apart with 5000 nos. of avenue tree plantation on central and side verges of roads.

During the entire month of June 2016 Jusco has planned many initiatives to create awareness on environment and at the same time engage stakeholders to become partners in making Jamshedpur one of the most environment friendly city in India.

Some of the key initiatives planned during the month include- Launch of Zero Liquid Discharge initiative, Ek Ped Ek Jeevan � Planting One Lakh fruit sapling at citizens residence, inauguration of 3 parks in eastern part of Jamshedpur, Smart Water Metering at Company residential premises, inauguration of 1000 KLD PSPT at Golmuri Golf Course and Inauguration of Sewage System and PSPT at ISWP and Jemco township.
