Marwari ladies celebrate concluding ceremony of Gangour Utsav

Jamshedpur: More than 2,000 Marwari ladies and young girls from all places in the city assembled at Jayanti Sarovar in Jubilee Park to perform the concluding rituals of the 16 day Gangour Utsav today between 3pm & 7 pm. The ceremony was organized by the Sakchi branch of Purvi Singhbhum Zila Marwari Sammelan.

The ladies and young girls had brought along their Gangours and Jwara for immersion. The ladies performed the prayer rituals and then sang and danced in traditional manner in conformity with the occasion of immersion. After the immersion, they applied abeer on one another to mark the occasion. 125 newly married women were presented gifts by the organizing committee.
Members of the Marwari Sammelan requested the ladies not to throw plastic bags and other worship material into the Jayanti Sarovar to maintain cleanliness. The ladies obliged.
The Purvi Singhbhum Zila Sammelan and Shri Jeen Mata Parivar arranged snacks and refreshments for the devotees.
Mass Gangour worship at Thakurbari Mandir
Earlier, a mass Gangour worship was performed at the Thakurbari Temple by women, young and old, of the Marwari community. They came decked up in traditional attire and jewelry and performed Gangour bhajans to seek Divine blessings for peace and prosperity in their families.
The married prayed for the long life of their husbands while young girls sought Divine blessings for getting husbands of their liking from Mother Parvati (Gangour Mata) and Lord Shiva (Isarji). Bhog or holy food was offered to Gauri Mata for consecration. The married women applied vermillion taken from the Mother�s feet one one-another�s forehead in a ritualistic manner signifying long and happy conjugal life. The Sakchi branch of Zila Marwari Sammelan had arranged for flowers and an idol of Gangour Mata to facilitate the prayers. The women later took out a procession through various streets and lanes of Sakchi.
