Jamshedpur: The suspicious death of Sneha Srivastava, a married woman from Sidhgora, has led to the registration of a dowry harassment case against her husband Nikhil Srivastava, father-in-law Gupteshwar Prasad, sister-in-law Soni, and brother-in-law Sonu.

Sneha, married for eight years, was found hanging in her residence on Sunday. Despite being rushed to TMH hospital, doctors declared her dead. Police later detained her husband Nikhil for questioning, while raids were underway to arrest the other accused.

The FIR, lodged by Sneha’s relative Abhishek Kumar of Golmuri Tata Line, alleged persistent torture and dowry demands by the in-laws. Sneha’s family further claimed that she bore injury marks consistent with assault, suggesting that she was beaten with a belt before her death.

Sneha and Nikhil had no children, and according to her family, this added to the harassment. Neighbors also reported frequent quarrels in the household.

The police have booked the accused under sections related to cruelty, dowry harassment, and abetment of suicide. Officials confirmed that Sneha’s body had multiple marks of physical violence, strengthening suspicions of foul play.

The tragic incident sparked anger in Sidgora, with women’s groups demanding strict action against the accused. Police said that once the post-mortem report was finalized, charges might be further strengthened.
