Jamshedpur, June 22 : The ground situation at the Tiruldih thana area in Khukru block has not changed since the June 13 massacre of the five policemen by suspected Maoists. The shops are not functioning well as shop-keepers tend to shut their shops much early and very few people were seen at the Khukru weekly haat, where the tragic incident had taken place.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Chandil, Devendra Banka who is
probing into the incident of five cops being killed at Khukru block
said that though they are considering this to be a case of
naxal-sponsored attack, but they are also keeping other angle also
open.
“We are considering it to be a naxal-sponsored attack as the attackers had
killed policemen only and taken away their rifles as well as pistols. But
the things that surprise us are that Khukru block has never been influenced
by the rebels, not even postering had been done by the rebels thee,” said
Banka .
The SDPO said the rebels tend to create a support base whenever they strike
like they did at Khukru, but the block has all along been a rebel-free area.
Banka, when queried, said that they are also looking into whether the
sand-mafia of the area had anything to do with the attack on the police
party, resulting in the death of the five police men.
“During the probe we found that on June 6, the district mining office,
Seraikela-Kharsawan with the help of Tiruldih police in Khukru had
seized seven sand-laden trucks as the sand
mafia were lifting sands from Subernarekha river despite a ban of
lifting till October 15. Just in a week the fatal attack on the
policemen was committed,” said the SDPO.
Moreover, the police had claimed it to be a naxal-sponsored attack,
but as of now neither the police have succeeded to name the outlawed
outfit, CPI-Moaist ‘s squad or any naxal squad has claimed to have
conspired the attack.
Sources in the Tiruldih area revealed that mining department officials
are not turning up there for inspection despite presence of police
force in Tiruldih where sand-lifting is the only viable business.
Meanwhile, Karthik S, who was earlier posted as city SP here and
presently in Ranchi
in CM’s security, has taken over as the new SP of Seraikela-Kharsawan.
The replacement of the present SP, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Chandan Kumar Sinha
with Karthik followed just in a week of the ghastly alleged naxal-sponsored
incident at Khukru block in Chandil division of the district where five
policemen, including two assistant sub-inspector of police were killed on
June 13 evening.
Director general of police, Kamal Nayan Choubey had had already declared
while paying floral tribute to the five slain cops at Seraikela police line
on June 14 that an efficient police officer will be posted at
Seraikela-Kharsawan so that naxalism can be combated effectively.
