Jamshedpur: The Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) has finalized a comprehensive plan to prevent waterlogging and reduce dust pollution ahead of the upcoming monsoon. The corporation will deploy 160 “Safai Mitras” (sanitation workers) to handle drainage cleaning and nighttime road sweeping.
Zonal Division for Drain Cleaning
The MMC has divided Mango into three specific zones for large-scale drain cleaning. A total of 90 sanitation workers—30 per zone—will execute the operation. The key focus areas include:
- Zone 1: Large drains from Tejab Talab to the Subarnarekha River, including Kunwar Basti.
- Zone 2: Drains from Jawahar Nagar and Deshbandhu Line through Road No. 13 (Cemetery) and Mayank Mrinal Hospital.
- Zone 3: Drains in Shantinagar, Khadia Basti, Paras Nagar, Baba Furniture, and Dimna Chowk, which workers will clear and connect to the river.
The selection process for workers concludes on May 15, with ground operations scheduled to begin in the first week of June.
Nighttime Road Sweeping Initiative
To minimize daytime dust and traffic disruption, the MMC has formed a separate team of 70 personnel for night shifts.
- Dimna Road: 30 workers will clean the stretch between Mango Chowk and Dimna Chowk.
- Purulia Road: 20 workers each will manage the New and Old Purulia Roads. The corporation has already issued tenders for this special sanitation drive.
Rapid Maintenance for High-Mast Lights
The MMC has introduced a 365-day maintenance plan for high-mast lights (12m, 16m, and 20m) across the city. Busy intersections such as Mango Chowk, Dimna Road, Old Purulia Road, and Chepa Pool will receive priority. Under the new contract, agencies must rectify any lighting faults within 24 to 48 hours, with MMC teams monitoring compliance.
“The cleaning of drains before the monsoon and nighttime road sweeping will soon be visible on the ground. Our goal is to make the city clean, beautiful, and safe,” stated Krishna Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Mango Municipal Corporation.
