Jamshedpur, June 14: The bodies of a 30 year old man along with those of two children were found near the Govindpur Halt on the Tatanagar-Ghatshila rail route on Friday morning. The deceased have been identified as Laltu Gope (30) and his two children, Daughter Lakshmi Gope (4 years) and son Ankit Gope (2 years).

Laltu Gope, a resident of Shankarda in Potka was looking after their two children singlehandedly as his wife had left him three months earlier. Investigations by the Govindpur police have revealed the details surrounding this tragedy.

According to the information, Laltu Gope’s wife had been missing for approximately three months leaving him to care for their two young children alone. The family resided in Govindpur, where Laltu worked as a contract laborer to support his family.

The absence of his wife and the responsibility of raising their children single-handedly took a severe toll on Laltu’s mental well-being. He found himself overwhelmed with grief and the stress of social harassment, ultimately leading him to take the ultimate step of ending his life along with his innocent children.

Reports further stated that Laltu Gope, driven by despair and unable to cope with the overwhelming circumstances, took the decision to commit suicide on the rail tracks, taking his two children with him. The bodies were recovered near the Govindpur Halt, prompting investigations to identify the victims.

After extensive efforts, Laltu’s family members, including his mother Jyotsna and two sisters residing in Shankarda village of Potka, were able to identify the bodies. They shared the harrowing details of Laltu’s marriage in 2016 and the family’s subsequent move to Govindpur to pursue work opportunities.

Post-mortem examinations have been conducted, and the authorities are now making arrangements to hand over the bodies to the family.
