Jamshedpur, Oct 29: Traffic movement went haywire on Bhuiyandih road for more than two hours after a 45-year-old man was run over by a trailer near Patel Nagar under Sitaramdera police station area on Thursday morning. � The ill-fated mishap took place when the victim was heading towards Sidhgora.
The victim identified as Gurdeep Singh was badly injured in the mishap and was rushed to MGM Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in an hour.
The incident took place at about 11 am, following which the residents of adjoining Bhuiyandih set up a blockade at the mishap spot. The traffic movement came to standstill. Soon after the incident, the trailer driver succeeded to escape the spot of mishap with his vehicle.
Peeved over the incident, the local residents staged a demonstration, claiming that fatal mishaps caused by heavy vehicles on Bhuiyandih road has become a regular affair and steps need to be taken to control the prevailing situation.
The police however, alerted its personnel and chased the killer trailer and intercepted it near Tinplate company gate. The police seized the trailer and also arrested the driver.
The blockade was lifted after the Sitaramdera thana OC, Anjani Kumar Singh promised the protestors that the administration will take necessary steps to ensure no further such mishap may take place on that road.
” We are investigating the incident as per our probe a fatal mishap took place near Patel Nagar on Bhuiyandi road at 11 am today. A 45-year-old man Gurdeep Singh who was a resident of Tuiladungri in Golmuri was killed in the mishap. We have seized the trailer that caused the mishap and also arrested the driver,” said the Sitaramdera OC, Anjani Kumar Singh.
The five accident-prone zones that have been identified by the district administration are Hathigora Temple area (close to Sakchi-Mango Road and Subarnarekha Link Road), Jubilee Park gate (near district collectorate), Garam Nullah (near Tata Steel Security Training Centre), Voltas Building turnaround in Bistupur (the Bistupur-Jugsalai intersection) and the road between Litti Chowk in Bhuiyandih and Slag Road in Humepipe.
An official said that they have identified a number points where the speed breakers are necessary to be set up. He pointed out that though they have identified the points for setting up the rumblers.
“We may decide what should be done for checking road mishap, but after all Tata Steel Utilities is the owner of the road and we will set up the rumbllers or any other form of speed-dividers only after getting a nod from the utility company.� A meeting will be held with the officials of the utility company shortly, where all the traffic-related problems have to be sorted out,” said a senior traffic police officer.
