Jamshedpur, Aug 4: A team of Seraikela-Kharsawan police arrested one Himanshu Shekhar Brahma for allegedly withdrawing several lakhs from the bank account of DM Sitamarhi (Bihar) through forged cheques. They arrested him from his house in Keonjhar (Odisha) on August 2 last.
According to Indrajeet Mahatha, SP, West Singhbhum, the accused had misappropriated Rs 3,88,600 from the DM�s bank account with the help of a cloned (forged) cheque. The said amount was transferred to his bank account.
An FIR was registered against Brahma in this connection. Police teams were formed to arrest him. But he was not found at home when police went to arrest him, Mahatha said.
Police said Brahma had misappropriated government money by committing forgery and cheating. An investigation is on to ascertain his role and identify his accomplices in the crime, they said.
