Jamshedpur: In a significant breakthrough against illegal arms trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF), in coordination with local police, busted an organized interstate gang involved in smuggling sophisticated weapons. Acting on an intelligence input, a joint raid was carried out in the Sohan Kuan neighborhood under the Lahari police station limits in Nalanda district, leading to the arrest of five arms traffickers, including three from Jamshedpur.
The operation resulted in the seizure of five pistols marked “Made in China,” 153 live cartridges of an AK-47 rifle, six magazines, and a Scorpio vehicle used for transportation. The sheer quantity and sophisticated nature of the weapons have raised serious concerns within the police establishment. Investigators suspect that the consignment was meant for a major criminal network operating across state borders.
The arrested accused have been identified as Parvez of Baradari under Nagar police station, Saurabh Jha of Munger, Mehboob alias Tinkoo of Mango, and Zahid Hussain of Sakchi in Jamshedpur. Police said the three accused from Jamshedpur are close friends and have been engaged in criminal activities for a prolonged period. Their criminal antecedents are currently being verified across multiple police stations in Jharkhand and Bihar.
Lahari police station in-charge Ranjit Kumar Rajak stated that the STF had received specific input regarding the delivery of a large cache of illegal arms at a flat located in Tribhuvan Prasad’s house in the Sohan Kuan area. The intelligence also indicated the arrival of arms traffickers from Jharkhand to collect the consignment. After due verification, a meticulously planned raid was conducted.
As soon as all the accused assembled inside the flat, the police team cordoned off the premises and apprehended all five traffickers red-handed. Officials confirmed that an intensive investigation is underway to trace the larger network, identify the source of the weapons, and uncover links to other criminal elements. Police authorities indicated that several crucial revelations are expected during sustained interrogation, which could lead to further arrests.
