Jamshedpur, Nov. 17: Tatanagar Railway Station will soon get equipped with hi-tech luggage scanner.From next week a passengers entering into Tatanagar station will have to get one’s luggage put on a luggage scanner at the entrance.Luggage scanner, which was a long-standing necessity for a A-One catagory station like Tatanagar, is finally being installed.
A final survey was jointly conducted today by officials of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Tatanagar station management and the company which will provide and commission the machine being installed. According to information the electronic gadget will be installed within the next five to six days time.
The luggage scanner will be installed just beside the Enquiry counter outside the entrance to the Platform No 1.
An official of a Noida-based company, Vehant Technologies Pvt Ltd which is providing and installing the luggage scanner said that it is a 5.5 metre-long and one metre wide machine having an overhead monitor. The deck where the luggage scanning will be carried out is 3.5 metre long and the remaining two metres will be rollers — one metre on either side.
He said it will take six seconds for getting a passenger’s luggage. He said any objectionable material kept inside a luggage will reflect on the monitor which will be installed overhead.
The survey was carried in presence of assistant security commissioner, RPF, SK Chaudhury, RPF inspector MK Singh and Tatanagar station director HK Balmuchu.
Railways decided to strengthen security measures in major railway stations. Installation of X-ray scanning machine was one of the measures.
The machine will be able to detect the contents in hand baggage carried by passengers walking into the Tatanagar railway station. The commissioning of the scanning machine will only be the beginning, the sources said, adding that more security measures would be put in place soon.
