Jamshedpur: Around 400 compassionate students from Classes XI and XII at Loyola School, Jamshedpur, embraced experiential learning and empathy through a rural outreach initiative. The program aimed to foster a connection with rural communities by visiting schools in the vicinity, engaging with less privileged students, and gaining a deeper appreciation for their own privileges.
Class XII students ventured to schools in Lupungutu, Pandabir, Belaipahari, Gande Dungri, and Basahatu. Their journey was marked not only by scenic drives but also by meaningful interactions. Activities such as drawing and painting competitions, quizzes, and music contests were organized, fostering an atmosphere of shared learning. The heartwarming gesture of the host schools sharing meals with their guests further underscored the spirit of unity.
The journey left an indelible impact on the students. As they returned home, they carried with them a heightened sense of gratitude for their own opportunities, coupled with a newfound understanding and admiration for their rural peers.
Simultaneously, Class XI students undertook visits to orphanages, old age homes, and centers for the mentally challenged. Their presence, accompanied by thoughtful gifts, provided comfort and companionship to the residents. These interactions exemplified the school’s commitment to holistic education and community engagement.
To conclude the transformative experience, a reflection session was held. During this introspective period, students contemplated their encounters and penned down their thoughts. This activity not only solidified the lessons learned but also encouraged self-awareness and empathy.
Father Vinod Fernandes, Principal, Loyola School, said that Loyola School’s Social and Rural Outreach Program stands as a testament to the institution’s dedication to shaping compassionate, well-rounded individuals who actively contribute to society’s well-being.
