Jamshedpur: Students of Singhbhum Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital in Sakchi are left in the lurch as its permanent teachers have gone on a mass leave since March demanding salary hike and promotion.
In protest against the delay in commencement of classes, the students supported by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists staged a demonstration on the college campus on Wednesday to demand alternative arrangement of faculty members and holding of classes regularly. The ABVP members burnt the effigy of the DC Dr Amitabh Kaushal before the DC office this evening.
They also locked the administrative office of the college and further threatened to stage dharna before the office of the deputy commissioner on Monday if their demands were not fulfilled soon. The students said the ongoing problems being faced by them had hit their academic activities hard and future prospects hard.
The agitating students said, The DC, who is the chairman of the governing body of the college, has given in writing to the state health department about his decision not to be chairman of the institution. In that case a new governing body is yet to be re-constituted to take a decision.
The agitating students are pursuing the Bachelor in Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course from the college affiliated to the Vinobha Bhave University.
The principal of the college Kulwant Singh said he had visited New Delhi and it had been decided by the Central Council of Homoeopathy to form a new governing body by the department of health and sanitation to take a firm decision. He expressed confidence that the problem will be solved soon.
