Jamshedpur, May 18: Gun shots rattled peace and tranquility at Dhatkidih area of the steel city on Wednesday early morning when assailants killed a 42-year-old liquor mafia, Kallu Ghosh, by pumping four bullets in him at his residence at Dhatikidh Medical Colony under the Bistupur police station area.
The victim, who ran an illicit liquor business in the city, was rushed to Tata Main Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 1 p.m. He was bullet ridden at 7 a.m.
According to information, Kallu was shot four bullets by four bike-borne assailants while he was performing yoga under a tree in front of his house at the Medical Colony this morning. The main assailant was the victim’s cousin brother, Holua Mukhi. Mukhi and three others fled the spot soon after the incident.
The victim was rushed to Tata Main Hospital’s emergency, where the doctors immediately shifted him to the critical care unit and was operated upon.
Three of the bullets had been taken out, but one of them remained stuck inside the lower abdomen of the victim. The doctors could not save him.
Officer in-charge of Bistupur police station, Anuj Kumar rushed to the spot and subsequently to the TMH CCU for taking the statement of the injured. But as his condition was extremely critical, he could not give any statement as such.
“We are investigating this incident. The murder took place due to a dispute between Kallu and his cousin brothers. Maybe the dispute was related to the illicit liquor business both families were engaged in. The suspects have absconded, but are conducting raids to arrest the assailants,” said Kumar.
The victim’s wife Julie said that she was with her husband 10 minutes before the attack. “We are in state of shock. My husband was unable to move due to a fractured leg after he met with a road mishap at Dhatkidih a month ago. But he still used to engage in yoga activities in the morning,” said Julie, who is mother two children.
But Kallu’s elder brother Munna Ghosh said Holua Mukhi (32), who stayed five quarters away from his house in the same locality, and three others including Sabbe and Nausad were involved in the crime.
“They were some disputes with Holua, who is my cousin brother, over something. I am confident the murder has been conspired by Holua and executed by his associates, two of them known as Sabbe and Naushad,” said Munna.
The officer-in-charge said that the assailants have used a pistol of 7.65 bore and they have collected four empty cartridges from the spot, suggesting that the victim was shot as many bullets from close range.
The police have recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem.
