Jamshedpur : Srikumar Menon, managing director (South Asia) of The Linde Group, addressed the class of XLRI PGDM-GMP 2014-15 for the eighth leadership event organized as part of the ongoing XLRI GMP Leadership Series.

Menon started the inspiring lecture by defining a good leader: a good leader is inspirational, humble, decisive, and compassionate and has unquestionable integrity.

He further emphasized the importance of good communication skills and went on to say that an exceptional leader is not only a good communicator but can also get his message across successfully.

Some leaders who might not be good with words are still able to interact effectively with all stakeholders through various channels of verbal and non-verbal communication.

Menon, a charted accountant by profession, was born and brought up in Delhi. He has over 36 years of industry experience. The leadership series is aimed at developing creative leadership and at connecting industry stalwarts with MBA students.

He gave examples of inspirational leaders such as Winston Churchill and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Churchill managed to galvanize a nation (United Kingdom) facing hostile conditions and Pataudi managed to create a united Indian Cricket team against all odds.

He praised Wolfgang Reitzle, CEO of The Linde Group, as being a visionary leader who transformed the Linde group from being a very small company to the largest gas manufacturer in the world.

He left the students spellbound by the deep wisdom shared in the talk today.

To end his session, he gave a very important message to the students to ponder upon- one of the most important traits of an excellent leader is that he is willing to accept his mistakes and prepared to move on.
