Jamshedpur: A life size statue of Kaviguru Ravindra Nath Tagore was unveiled at Ravindra Bhavan, Sakchi, on Monday by TV Narendran, MD, Tata Steel (India and South East Asia).
After inaugurating the statue, Narendran praised it and recalled the greatness of the Nobel Laureate poet.
He also praised the members of Tagore Society for keeping the glorious cultural traditions of the country alive and organizing intellectual activities all round the year.
A welcome song was presented by a group of performers on the arrival of the guests. The guests were welcomed in the traditional Indian manner.
The general secretary of Tagore Society, Ashish Chowdhury, presented angavastram and a bouquet to Narendran. The Society president HS Paul gave the welcome speech. A vote of thanks was proposed by the general secretary.
Chowdhury said it was the first statue of Tagore in Jharkhand. He said the statue is 11 feet and two inches high and has been built with bronze by Niranjan Pradhan of Kolkata in six months.
During the second session of the programme, the speakers talked about the creations of Tagore and his contribution to the world of literature.
The artists who performed on the occasion included Chandana Chowdhury, Tapas Das, Rita Mitra, Partho Priya Das, Suman Bhattacharya, Sukhmoy Chakraborty, Ashok Das and Aseem Dey.
