Legal services cum empowerment camp to kick off at Gopal Maidan today
Jamshedpur: Under the guidance of Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is all set to organise one-of-its-kind legal services cum empowerment camp on Sunday at Gopal Maidan, Bistupur, on 25th February. Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court DN Patel will inaugurate the camp at 9 am.
The objective of the camp is to provide free legal services to the labourers of unorganised sector. This was informed here on Saturday by the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Jamshedpur Manoj Prasad who reviewed preparations for the event along with the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum Amit Kumar.
Briefing on the facilities and functions of the camp, the District Judge said that industrial workers of organised and unorganised sectors or retired persons were eligible to avail the benefits of the camp. More than 20,000 people are expected to participate in the camp, he said.
About two lakh labourers have got them registered for getting legal aid to by filling up the application form so far.
According to the DC, a total of 35 stalls would be set up at the camp. The stalls will be put up by various government departments including departments of Labour, Social Welfare, supply, fishery, health, education, agriculture and animal husbandry. The unorganized workers will get detailed information about various government schemes being run for them. Assets and benefits would be provided to the beneficiaries during the camp by the guests, said the DC.
The DC said the unorganized workers and their family members would be benefitted by schemes providing them scholarship, bicycle, sewing machine, health insurance, forest lease and various other benefits. He said the Supreme Court had ordered formulation of the Unorganized Social Security Act 2008 which is aimed at empowering workers of the unorganized sector.
�The work of most of the workers is of temporary nature and the relationship between employers and employees is temporary. Working hours are uncertain. Basic amenities and welfare facilities are nonexistent or inadequate wherever being provided. Risk to life and limb is also inherent.
We call upon workers in unorganized sector to come forward and avail the scheme benefits,� said an official of DLSA. He noted that DLSA has been acting as a bridge and connecting the beneficiary to the nodal department.
He said the para-legal volunteers and panel lawyers have been creating awareness even to the extent of door-to- door visit to connect the genuine workers.
