Lee Durrell, wife of famous naturalist Gerald Durrell visits city

Jamshedpur, April 15: Ms Lee Durrell, wife of famous naturalist late Gerald Durrell, visited CFE today to have an over-view of the city’s history and culture.

In the evening she inaugurated an exhibition on Gerald Durrell at CFE titled “Footprints from Jamshedpur”. Later she addressed a gathering on “Gerald Durrell and his Global Influence on Conservation” at the CFE Auditorium.

Speaking to media-persons at CFE, Durrell said the Conservation Academy run by her had many Indian participants who came every year to learn about conservation techniques and undergo courses on the conservation of endangered species.

She said she was open to any worthwhile proposal that could result in improvement of living conditions of endangered species in India.

She said she was already working in Assam on the protection of pygmy hogs.

Asked about her visit to Tata zoo, Durrell said there was room for improvement while adding that she will be writing to Tata Steel authorities concerned about her observations and suggestions.

Durrell also visited Tata Steel Corporate Centre. This was followed by a visit to the Tata Zoological Park, where she had an interactive session with the authorities and government officials. Durrell also went to TMH and attended a programme at Loyola School, Bistupur.
