Lack of portable X-Ray machines causes hardships at Sadar, MGM Hospitals

Jamshedpur, Mar 6: Patients at Sadar Hospital and MGM Hospital are facing severe difficulties due to the absence of portable X-ray machines, forcing many to be referred to other medical facilities. Despite being essential for emergency and critical care, neither of these government hospitals in Kolhan have a portable X-ray unit, causing unnecessary delays in treatment.

Doctors highlight the need for portable X-Ray machines

Dr. Gandharva Narayan Singh from the Medicine Department of Sadar Hospital emphasized the urgent requirement for a portable X-ray machine. He recalled a recent case where a critically ill patient was admitted to the upper floor and doctors needed an X-ray to assess his condition. However, since the patient was unable to stand, an X-ray could not be conducted, delaying further treatment. Eventually, the patient had to be referred to MGM Hospital, which also lacks a portable X-ray unit.

Critical patients struggle without portable X-Ray facility

Doctors at Sadar Hospital and MGM Hospital say that many accident victims, gunshot injury patients and those in critical condition require immediate bedside X-rays in the ICU or emergency ward. However, due to the unavailability of portable X-ray machines, these patients must be transported to the X-ray room, which is often not feasible in severe cases.

A doctor at Sadar Hospital noted, “If a portable X-ray machine were available, we could diagnose and treat patients without moving them, especially those in critical care.”

Patients bear the brunt of the shortage

Both Sadar and MGM Hospitals are key healthcare providers in the region, handling a large number of emergency and trauma cases daily. However, the lack of basic medical equipment like portable X-ray machines is causing unnecessary delays, patient discomfort and referrals to private hospitals.

Medical professionals and patients alike are urging the health department to address this issue urgently and ensure that both hospitals receive portable X-ray machines at the earliest.
