Jamshedpur, April 12: Kunal Sharangi sounded the electricity department’s General Manager on the deteriorating power supply condition and stated that due to irregular and truncated power supply, the people were resigned to suffer the misery of a harsh summer. Kunal pointed out that children appearing for their examinations, were being confronted with water scarcity as water pumps were not running to capacity because of pathetic power supply.

The BJP leader warned the General Manager that if the power supply condition was not improved shortly, people would be forced to take to the streets.

The General Manager explained that due to acute summer conditions, the consumption of electricity had increased by about 40 percent. The consumption in the entire command area is compensated by 350 MW in lieu of the needed 550 MW but what has been received was 450 MW transformer.

Kunal stressed that power consumers should be alerted by the department of time schedule of power cuts and restoration of power supply. That way, people would prepare their schedule accordingly. Kunal said, “The current status of power supply is that power cuts happen at any time without any notification to consumers. Sometimes 12 hour power cuts occur in places like Baharagora, Barsole, Chakulia, Dalbhumgarh and Ghatshila Blocks, to mention a few. The power cuts happen at any time without notice. The officials have no answer. In Raghunathpur in Chakulia and Kutigram in Baharagora, transformers have been burnt since several days. You have to replace them soon.”

The General Manager, after the meeting with Kunal Shadangi, ordered the Executive Engineer to publish the updated status of electricity mentioning the name of the feeder for rural areas in all the major newspapers along with information on timings for power cuts. The GM assured the former MLA that more power supply was being ensured after talks with power producers like DVC, NTPC, Modern Power. Sub-station at Barsole and Grid work at Musabani would be completed soon and the situation would improve soon.
