Jamshedpur, May 30: The University Grants Commission’s (UGC) National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) has given ‘C’ grade with grading point 1.60 CGPA to Chaibasa-situated Kolhan University (KU).

Meanwhile, Jamshedpur Co-operative Collage has bagged ‘B’ grade with 2.36 CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) by NAAC.

Along with the grading, the NAAC team also presented the inspection report to the collage and the university. The report shows the good and shortcomings of the college and university. The NAAC team visited Kolhan University from April 25 to 27, while it inspected the Jamshedpur Co-Operative College from April 5 to 7 to assess the educational activities and infrastructure.

Set up in the year 2009, Kolhan University is first university of the country to get NAAC grading within 6 years of its foundation. NAAC team also praised the university authorities for good governance. The team said that work done in teaching, learning, research and basic infrastructure will benefit in the development of university and it’s a positive sign.

On the other hand, NAAC team’s report says that scarcity of teachers and no fresh appointments in the university is the biggest drawback. The report made it clear that no appointment of teachers by JPSC was the reason behind shortage of local teachers. Apart from this the report showed lack of sports ground, central library, hostel, staff quarter, textbooks etc in the university.

“Grade ‘C’ to Kolhan University and ‘B’ grade to Jamshedpur Co-operative Collage by NAAC is a big achievement and will help in the development of the university and college both. This is the first university of the country to get NAAC grading within 6 years of its foundation,” said RPP Singh, vice-chancellor, Kolhan University.

He added, “This is a reward for the hard work of the teachers and university staff.”

Singh also congratulated Co-operative College for NAAC grade and wished for overall development of the college.
NAAC in its report of Jamshedpur Co-operative College highlighted several positives of the college. Dr. S S Razi, principal in-charge of the college, has been stated as a good educationalist, teacher and administrator.

The college has been marked as rank holder college among the constituents of Kolhan University for its superior performances in the several exams conducted by the college.

The report states that several students for rural areas come to study in the college. Teachers in good numbers participate in seminars. Grievance and redressal cell, cleanliness, accounts book is audited time to time while the feedback of the students is also positive.

Dr. Razi says the teachers, students and staffs of the college have helped attain this feat. “As college gets ‘B’ grade from NAAC now it will be easy for college to become a cluster university. It will also pave the way for College with potential for excellence (CPE).”
