Jamshedpur: The Scouts and Guides cadets of Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS), Golmuri, visited Bhilaipahari today. The community outreach initiative aimed to bridge the gap between students and the underprivileged, fostering empathy through direct action.
Leadership and Participation
The programme flourished under the mentorship of Chairman Mr. K. P. G. Nair and Principal Mrs. Nandini Shukla, along with the school’s Vice Principals and Registrar.
A dedicated team of ten Scouts and Guides led the visit, supported by:
- Counsellor: Mrs. Nishi Thakur
- Guide Captains: Mrs. Sudha Verma and Mrs. Anju Gopinath
Service in Action
The students carried out a clothes distribution drive, providing good-condition sarees, salwar suits, shirts, jeans, and T-shirts to local residents. Beyond the material aid, the initiative sought to instill the core values of the Scouts and Guides movement: compassion and service.
Voices of Change: Student Reflections
The visit left a profound impact on the young volunteers, who shared their personal growth from the experience:
- Indrani: “Interacting with the people made me realise that simple living can bring positive changes to our own thinking.”
- Anantika: “Seeing the joy on their faces while receiving the clothes filled my heart with happiness.”
- Anushka: “I discovered new things about the community and learned valuable lessons in helping others.”
- Harshita: “It felt wonderful to give away items that were no longer necessary for me but are incredibly useful for someone else.”
“Be Prepared”
The outreach reinforced the Scouts’ motto, “Be Prepared,” by moving beyond words and into meaningful community service. By engaging with the residents of Bhilaipahari, KSMS students strengthened their empathy and reaffirmed their commitment to social welfare.
