Classroom to Crew Trainer: Jamshedpur girl Khushboo’s Journey of Empowerment

Jamshedpur: Khushboo Kumari Singh, 22, is no longer just a BBA student at Women’s College, Jamshedpur; she is a professional leader. Her journey from a first-generation job seeker to a Crew Trainer at McDonald’s serves as a powerful testament to how the right guidance can transform youthful aspiration into career success.

Bridging the Gap: The CII Model Career Centre

Like many young people from modest backgrounds, Khushboo initially felt uncertain about how to enter the professional world. Her turning point arrived during a career guidance session at her college, conducted by the CII Model Career Centre (MCC).

Enabled by the Tata Steel Foundation in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the MCC acts as a vital bridge between education and employment. It offers:

  • Career Counselling: Helping students identify their strengths.
  • Pre-screening & Preparation: Training youth in professional behavior and interview techniques.
  • Industry Connections: Linking candidates directly to reputable employers.

A Rapid Rise at McDonald’s

Through the MCC, Khushboo learned about an opening at the McDonald’s outlet in P&M Mall in November 2024. After successfully navigating multiple interview rounds with the centre’s guidance, she joined as a Crew Apprentice.

Her growth since then has been remarkable:

  • Promotion: Within just six months, she earned a promotion to Crew Trainer.
  • Leadership: She now trains new recruits and even mentors Management Trainees for leadership roles.
  • Performance: During a recent product launch, her sales contributions earned her a ₹10,000 incentive.
  • Financial Independence: Earning between ₹10,000–₹12,000 monthly, she now contributes significantly to her family’s needs.

“I had never worked before and did not know how to start,” says Khushboo. “CII MCC guided me step by step. Today, I feel independent and confident that I can build my career. I am grateful for the guidance I received at exactly the right time.”

The Broader Impact: Empowering Jharkhand’s Youth

Khushboo’s success is a single thread in a much larger fabric of regional development. Established in March 2021, the CII MCC has become a powerhouse for youth employment across Jharkhand and Odisha.

CII MCC Impact (Since 2021):

Youth Registered | 20,000+

Candidates Counselled | 10,000+ |

Successful Placements | ~2,500 |

By providing reliable information and free, high-quality preparation, the Tata Steel Foundation and CII are ensuring that the youth of Jamshedpur don’t just find jobs—they find careers. As for Khushboo, while she continues her BBA in HR, her ultimate dream remains clear: a long-term career with Tata Steel.
