Jamshedpur, Feb 18: Krishak Mitras of Dumaria and Potka Blocks staged a demonstration on Thursday in front of Potka legislator Sanjiv Sardar’s residence in Ulda village under Harina Panchayat in demand for parity in pay structure at par with MGNREGA workers’ minimum wages. It was only after Sanjiv Sardar convinced them that he would talk to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren for parity in their pay with the minimum wage structure of MGNREGA workers. It was only then that the Krishak Mitras lifted their protest. Nearly 150 Krishak Mitras from Dumaria and Potka Blocks participated in the protest.

Leading the protesters Krishak Mitra Mahasangh official Anand Das informed that the Krishak Mitras were being paid monthly incentives of Rs 50 through 10 years. “I am paid @ Rs 16 per day which is absolutely insufficient for running a household. One trip to the Potka Block Office entails an expenditure of Rs 200. Nobody cares about the acute economic condition of us Krishak Mitras. We thought the government would think about our betterment but 10 years have passed and nothing has been done to improve our lot. We are literally staring at hunger,” rued Anand Das.

Among the Krishak Mitras who sat on protest were Shyam Sunder Sao, Malay Kumar Patar, Nand Lal Hembram, Parul Mahto, Pulak Kumar Sao, Jayanto Kumar Sardar, Shyamal Mahakur and many others.
