KPS Kadma to play host to Jharkhand Junior Boxing Championship

Jamshedpur, Dec. 19:  More than 150 participants including 50 women will converge at Kerala Public School, Kadma for the 13th Jharkhand State Junior Men & Women Boxing Championship 2019.

KPS Kadma in association with Jharkhand Boxing Association (JBA) for the very first time will be hosting the boxing championship from December 20 to 22, 2019.

84 bouts will be held over a period of three days which includes 13 weight categories between 44 to 81, said Sharat Chandran, Director, Kerala Public Schools.

Addressing a press meet on the eve of the championship, Sharat Chandran informed, “the main purpose behind conducting the championship is to make students aware about the sport and inculcate discipline, fitness habits and increase participation in outdoor activities.”

“We have started boxing training centre in the school and soon we will add new facilities to it. This will help students get involved with sports at school level,” he noted. 

JC Vyaas of JBA said, participants from 10 Districts (East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Garhwa, Godda, Giridih, Seraikela Kharsawan, Ramgarg, Kodarma), 2 Institutions (Tata Boxing Centre, Urban Services) and 2 Schools Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Kerala Public School (KPS) will be participating in the Championship.

Principal Sharmila Mukherjee said, the inaugural function will be held on Friday, December 20 where Suresh Dutt Tripathi, President, Jharkhand Boxing Association (JBA) and VP, HRM, Tata Steel will be present as the chief guest. Uttam Singh, General Secretary, JBA will also be in attendance. The closing ceremony will be conducted on December 22. JBA’s BK Jena was also present at the press conference.
