Kolhan University students polls: Campaign starts

Jamshedpur : After candidates from different colleges received their final list to contest the Kolhan University students� elections on Saturday, the candidates officially started campaigning from today.

According to information, the Jamshedpur Women’s College has rejected 19 out of 25 nominations on the grounds of poor marks, attendance, and incorrect details.

As of now there are only six candidates who are almost uncontested.

The polling is on September 20. The candidates in each constituent college will fight for the post of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, deputy secretary and university representative.

Shukla Mahanty, principal, Jamshedpur Women’s College said that the candidates were rejected on the basis of their marks, attendance and incomplete forms. Though some students protested and the college authorities also presented their flaws.

The LBSM College in Karandih has also rejected the nomination of four candidates. The Graduate School College for Women rejected three candidates while the Jamshedpur Co-operative College rejected 10 candidates. The principals of the concerned colleges said that the scrutiny was done as per the guidelines of the Lyngdoh Committee.

“Yes we have rejected 10 candidates. At present only 20 eligible students will contest,” said S.S. Razi, principal of Jamshedpur Co-operative College.

Despite being Sunday, the students started campaigning from today. Candidates of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP); National Students Union of India (NSUI), All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU); Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha (JCM) and others have already started campaigning among the student community. The candidates and their supporters have also taken active steps on the social media too.

Kolhan University is all set for the students election second time. The election is scheduled on September 20. The campaign ends on September 19 at 4 pm.

The elections will be fought in 14 constituent colleges in Kolhan and at the university level. Each college will have a president, vice-president, a secretary, deputy secretary, a joint secretary and a university representative. The university representatives then will contest for the president and other posts at the university level.
