Chaibasa: Kolhan University has reduced the undergraduate admission application fee from ₹100 to just ₹25 per subject per college, providing significant financial relief to thousands of aspiring students. Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta chaired the 44th meeting of the Academic Council at the university’s conference hall, where the council finalized this decision.
The Council approved the 75 percent fee reduction to make higher education more accessible and affordable. University officials stated that the reduced fee will enable students to apply to multiple colleges and subjects without facing a heavy financial burden, thereby increasing their chances of securing admission in their preferred courses.

The Academic Council also approved several other important measures to protect student interests and strengthen the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The Council decided that all students who have successfully passed examinations from the first to the sixth semester can apply for admission to the postgraduate session 2025–27 through the Chancellor Portal.
In another significant reform, the Council abolished the mandatory requirement of an Honours degree for admission to two-year postgraduate programmes. This decision will likely widen access to higher education and provide greater academic opportunities to students from diverse educational backgrounds.
To facilitate a smooth admission process, the Council issued an advisory through the principals of all affiliated and constituent colleges. The advisory urges students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and reserved categories—including SC, ST, and OBC communities—to prepare their domicile, income, and caste certificates in advance. The university clarified that competent authorities of the Government of Jharkhand must issue valid certificates for admissions.
The meeting also featured detailed discussions on:
- Undergraduate admissions for the academic session 2026–30.
- Admission guidelines for Semesters III and V under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP).
- Postgraduate admissions for the 2025–27 session.
- Subject coding issues in accordance with regulations introduced in 2020.
The Council ratified and approved the proceedings and compliance reports of the 42nd and 43rd Academic Council meetings. Members also deliberated on the effective implementation of NEP 2020, examination procedures, academic programmes, and other key educational matters.
Dean (Academics) Dr. Sanjay Yadav presented various academic proposals and provided detailed insights into the agenda items.
Academic Council members, deans, heads of departments, and university officials welcomed the decisions, describing them as progressive measures that will enhance academic quality, strengthen the research ecosystem, and create better educational opportunities for students across the Kolhan region.
