Chaibasa: Kolhan University has officially renamed its campus auditorium as “Veer Poto Ho Sabhagar” to honor the legendary tribal freedom fighter. The university issued a formal notification confirming that the change takes effect immediately.
Syndicate Decision
The university reached this decision during its 90th Syndicate meeting on February 26, 2026. Following the directive of Vice-Chancellor Anjila Gupta, the Registrar’s Office issued the formal order to implement the new name.
Honoring a Local Hero
The renaming pays tribute to Veer Poto Ho, a courageous warrior from the Kolhan region who led significant tribal resistance against British rule. Known for mobilizing indigenous communities to fight for their dignity and land rights, his legacy remains a cornerstone of the region’s history.
University authorities stated that the initiative aims to immortalize the sacrifices of local tribal freedom fighters. By highlighting such figures, the university hopes to inspire students and younger generations with the rich history of India’s freedom struggle within the Kolhan division.
