C?olleges to set up infrastructure with a minimum of 200 computer systems�?
Jamshedpur, April 01 : The Kolhan University is working on a project to make its examination completely online within few years. After adopting the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2017, the university has decided to make the entire process online to help students become techno savvy.
The examination department of Kolhan University have asked all 46 constituent (17) and affiliated colleges to set up infrastructure with a minimum of 200 computer systems that will make the examination process easier.
As per the plans, in the first phase, online examination will be organised for ability enhancement, a compulsory course for students of first and second semester and skill enhancement, an elective course for students of third and fourth semester. Both papers hold 50 marks weightage in the CBCS system. At present students answer on OMR (optical mark recognition) for the mentioned papers.
” We want to utilize the available technology this will help to update and make the process easier. So far no university has introduced online examinations for their undergraduate students but we are trying it for the first time to make education better with use of the latest technology,” said one of the officials of the varsity’s examination department.
The official added that about 23000 students will appear for the online test in the first phase expected to take place in 2020-21. Later other subjects will gradually be added to the system.
The Kolhan University was established on August 13, 2009 with 14 Constituent Colleges and 14 Affiliated Colleges in geographical jurisdiction of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and SeraikelaKharswan District with more than 80,000 students strength. The university is in the area of tribal region. Apart from conventional courses in UG and PG level including medical/ dental/ engineering/ law/ management/ education following vocational courses are running under the university.
