Kishlay Raj Jamshedpur topper in IIT-JEE Advanced, second in state

Jamshedpur: Kishlay Raj topped Jamshedpur in the Joint Engineering Entrance (JEE) Advanced test, the entrance test for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture courses at Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. His All India Ranking stood at 77 while he secured second postion in the state.

Students of the Steel City have once again proved their merit in the competetive examination as about 200 students paved way for top engineering colleges out of 2500 who appeared for the exam, the results for which were announced on Thursday.

Kumari Shilpa of DAV Public school, Bistupur was the second city topper with an All India Rank of 1085 followed by Mridul Kothari of Litle Flower School who�s All India Rank is 1355.

Premier IIT/ Medical institue of the east, Prerna Classes in Jamshedpur again saw a rise in performance as total of 124 students cleared the exam. DAV Bistupur 23 students paved way for IIT.

Dhanbad boy and student of DPS Aayush Mukherjee ranked fist in Jharkhand with 292 marks while he stood at 40th position (AIR) in India.

Ranchi boy Adiyta scored 282 marks and was third state topper with All India Rank of 84. All together around 700 students from Jharkhand cleared the exam.

Kishlay Raj, a student of Rajendra Vidyalaya stood at 77, the highest in the city and second highest in the State. The trend of boys outperforming the girls was maintained this year too.

Meanwhile, Jamshedpur topper Kishlay busy receiving calls from friends and media, said that he owe his success to hard work and routine study. �I am really thrilled with my performance. I put in hard efforts during the exam and im a bit dissapointed as I was expecting a much higher rank,� he said.

Kishlay, who scored 350 out of total 360 marks in JEE Mains said, �I used to study about 8-9 hours a day during my JEE preparation phase. I would go for regular classes in Prerna Institute in Jamshedpur for 3-4 hours and rest of the time I regularly spent on self study at home. I avoided skipping any topic under JEE and my Class XII syllabus. The consistency in my preparation boosted my confidence for the paper�, added topper.

He added that he is already focused on his next destination�IIT. �I want to pursue career in the field of software and IIT is the ultimate goal,� said Kishlay, expressing satisfaction over the results. He went on to add that his aim to is make India self sufficient in the field of software technology.

Kishlay, aspires for IIT, Mumbai as he feels this IIT branch has modernised its courses at par with the industrial needs rather than Kharagpur. Kishlay’s father Rajesh Kumar said, “He has made us proud and we would like him to fulfill his dreams. A majority of the students are keen to going in IIT Mumbai. I am happy that Kishlay has scored so well and have cracked the JEE.”

Experts say that though the IIT-JEE entrance examination were easier this time, the higher cut off marks made it difficult for students to qualify and it is proved that the competition is getting tougher as years pass by.

IIT and ISM aspirants can start filling their choice for a number of courses post declaration of the JEE Advanced results. The process starts from June 20, 2014 (Friday) and will continue till June 24. Only candidates securing all India ranks and securing above minimal position on the combined merit list will be eligible for the online seat choice filling process. Architecture aspirants having cleared the JEE Advanced will be required to attempt the Architecture Aptitude Test which will be conducted on June 26, 2014. In all there are 9,784 seats on offer across the 16 IITs and ISM Dhanbad.
