KIIT Stadiums to be named after Pramod and Dutee
Jamshedpur/Kalinganagar, Sept 23: The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed University unrolled the red carpet to Olympians. KIIT has remained a crucible for sports as has been reflected by an erupting mushroom of sports talents in the last few years. The initiative commenced in 2005 and there has been no looking back ever since. The sports talents cradled at KIIT have gone on to win kudos, laurels and pride for their institution, state and nation at national and international meets through the years. ..
Surpassing all odds, the talents from the KIIT left their blazing footprints in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics. Adding another feather to the overflowing cap of KIIT glory, at the recent Tokyo Paralympics,, Pramod Bhagat, who has been associated with KIIT for long, won a Gold Medal in Badminton. He had earlier bagged a Gold Medal in World Badminton Championship and many other medals for the State and country. He frequently practiced for his games in KIIT Indoor Stadium. He is the only Odiya to achieve such remarkable feats and KIIT and every Odiya stand and salute him.
In recognition of his outstanding and unique achievements, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS felicitated him in the presence of senior officials of the two institutions. KIIT also honoured him with a Cash Prize of Rs.5,00,000.
In a rare gesture of honour, KIIT has decided to name the Indoor Stadium at Campus -12 (where he practiced his game) as ‘Pramod Bhagat Indoor Stadium’. Besides, Pramod will be honoured with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) from KIIT or KISS Deemed University.
In a repeat glory for the nation, Dutee Chand of KIIT School of Law has been on the Olympics tracks for two successive terms including the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics-2021. She also kitted two Silver medals in the ASIAD and become the First Indian Woman to win the Gold Medal in the World University Games representing KIIT University, for which this University feels very proud of her.
In appreciation of her tremendous landmarks on the Indian sporting firmament, KIIT has decided to name its Synthetic Athletic Stadium after Dutee as ‘Dutee Chand Stadium.’ Dutee is being considered for the honour of Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) from KIIT or KISS Deemed University in 2022. KIIT is the first University in India to name its two stadiums after Olympians.
Two stadiums of KIIT will be named after these two Olympians in December 2021 informed, Dr. Samanta. He hailed the Honourable Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik who has been tirelessly promoting sports and sports persons through the years. He has especially promoted Dutee and Pramod.
Another World Champion, Rakhal Sethy was also provided a cheque worth Rs. 2.7 lakh for a wheelchair to participate in Fencing Para World Cup in November.

Recognition and support to these outstanding athletes will not only encourage them, but also encourage other aspiring athletes and sports persons to strive for bringing more laurels to the nation.
