Jamshedpur, Jan 9: Jharkhand woke up to severe winter chill on Friday as Khunti recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at a frigid 1.5°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi.
The IMD’s bulletin issued this afternoon highlighted the continuation of cold wave conditions across several districts.
Daltonganj, Chaibasa, Bano (Simdega), Khunti, and Bokaro were officially identified as cold wave-affected areas.
Other districts also recorded sub-normal minimum temperatures, with Ranchi at 7.3°C, Jamshedpur at 8.4°C, Daltonganj at 3.2°C, and Bokaro at 5.1°C.
The chill was intensified by dense morning fog, reducing visibility to 700 metres at AMS Deoghar.
No rainfall was reported in the state during the past 24 hours.
Weathermen have advised residents to take precautions during early morning and late night hours, as cold wave conditions are expected to persist over the next few days.
According to weathermen, the chill has intensified due to dry and crisp weather coupled with strong flow of cold north- westerly wind.
