Keeping Jamshedpur clean and green is a collective responsibility: Jusco MD

Jamshedpur, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Jusco organized a series of events on 5 June across the town with an objective to create awareness for a mass movement to plant trees, take ownership and reasonability and to make Jamshedpur � a Cleaner, Safer and Greener City.

Tree plantation at Joggers Park
The day started at 6.30 am with Ashish Mathur, MD, Jusco participated in the tree plantation drive at Joggers� Park, Sonari. Children of Balichela School put up a grand show and participated in the event.

700 �Neem� tree planted near Marine Drive
The second programme was near Marine Drive linking road (behind Kerala Public School, Kadma) were Shaba Alam Ansari, IFS, DFO, Dhalbhum along with R Ravi Prasad, President, Tata Workers� Union took part in the massive �Neem� tree plantation drive. Ashish Mathur, Capt. Dhananjay Mishra, Deepak P Kamath, A P Singh, Srilal from Jusco Shramik Union, A P R Nair of Kerala Public School, Kendra Varistha Nagrik Sangha, Senior Citizens from across town took part in the plantation drive.

The identified area was earlier use to be a waste dumping ground and was full of filth and garbage. Public Health & Horticulture Services Department of Jusco took up the challenge and converted the area into a green patch. The total area is approx. 3.00 acres with Neem plantation of 700 nos. A Jungle Track of 350 running mtrs will also be constructed for morning walkers.

The objective of planting Neem sapling was purely because of its quality to purify air. With 2 concrete platforms, the area can also be utilized for picnic and get-together but cooking and use of plastic is banned inside the premises. Jusco has named the area as �Neem Bagh Jungle Track�.

Mathur during his address spoke about the importance of Neem tree in human life and requested everyone to undertake one such initiative this year which will make a difference in their life and society.

He further said that Jamshedpur is the collective responsibility of all the citizens and not only of Jusco and Tata Steel. The company can make an effort and provide facilities but it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect and maintain it.

Alam and Ravi Prasad lauded the efforts of Tata Steel and Jusco in taking up environment related projects in the city and make Jamshedpur one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the country.

No Plastic Bags campaign in Sonari and Kagalnagar

Later during the evening Jusco joined hands with Tata Steel Urban Services in the campaign of �No Plastic Bags� in Sonari and Kagalnagar market.

More than 100 shopkeepers were approached not to use plastic bags in their shops. Sample bags of Zimmedaar Nagrik Zimmedaar Shaher were distributed amongst shopkeepers to create awareness and make an effort to eliminate plastic bags from market.

Jusco during the last one year has been able to persuade some 60 shopkeepers in Sakchi and Bistupur market to use environment friendly bags instead of plastic bags in their shops. The objective of this campaign is to stop the use of plastic bags and provide an alternate for consumers/ shopkeepers.

During the entire month of June 2015 Jusco has planned many initiatives to create awareness on environment and at the same time engage stakeholders to become partners in making Jamshedpur one of the most environment friendly city in India. Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care. is the theme this year by United Nations on World Environment Day.
