Jamshedpur: The Innovation Council of Karim City College recently organized an event inviting students to present their innovative business ideas. Twelve students from various departments showcased startup concepts spanning diverse fields such as agriculture, medicine, education, and food technology.
Dr. Chittaranjan Bhagat, founder and scientist at Nano Research Lab, graced the occasion as the chief guest and expert. In his address, Dr. Bhagat lauded the creativity and vision of the students, stating that their ideas possess immense business potential and should be developed further. He also spoke about the growing opportunities for startups in Jharkhand, encouraging young innovators to contribute to the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The students who presented their startup ideas included Abdul Qadir, Abdul Hafeez, Neha Parveen, Aqsa Fatima, Noor Saba, Anshu Kumari, Zoya Akhtar, Atiya Mehwish, Tausif Alam, Prabhu Nath, Yudhishthir Mahato, and Vikas Mahato.
The program began with Dr. Neha Tiwari, President of the Innovation Council, who elaborated on the purpose of the event and the role of innovation in higher education. Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Controller of Examinations, extended a warm welcome to the guests and conveyed best wishes to all the student presenters on behalf of the Principal, Dr. Mohammad Riaz.
Dr. Ali Jan Hussain, Coordinator of Innovation Activities and Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department, explained the importance of fostering a culture of innovation among students. He also provided an overview of the DST funding scheme offered by the Government of India to support promising startup ideas. Recently, members of the College’s Innovation Council and students had participated in an event hosted by NIT Jamshedpur to gain deeper insights into this government initiative.
Also present at the event were Dr. Khurshid Alam Khan, Vice President of the Innovation Council, and coordinators Dr. Moiz Ashraf, Dr. Farzana Anjum, Dr. Tufail Ahmed, Dr. Aftab Alam, Dr. Anwar Sahib, Dr. Zahid Parvez, and Dr. Muazzam Nazari. The BBA Department played a key role in organizing the program.
Karim City College has been steadily strengthening its innovation ecosystem since 2020. The college’s Innovation Council received formal recognition from the Innovation Cell of the Government of India in 2024. Notably, Dr. Neha Tiwari, Chairperson of the Innovation Council, was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Ministry of Education for her exemplary contribution to innovation and entrepreneurship.
