Karim City College celebrates National Statistics Day with emphasis on Data-Driven Decision Making

Jamshedpur, June 30: The Faculty of Commerce at Karim City College (KCC) celebrated National Statistics Day in collaboration with the Sub-regional Office Jamshedpur, National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Field Operation Division (FOD), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India. This year’s theme was ‘Use of Data in Decision Making.’

The event was inaugurated by a distinguished panel of guests including Chief Guest Dr. Dhananjay, District Transport Officer, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur; Amod Vivek, Senior Statistical Officer cum in-charge, NSSO(FOD); Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singh, Head of the Department of Statistics, Jamshedpur Cooperative College; Prof. In-Charge Dr. B.N. Tripathy and Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri, Head of the Commerce Department at Karim City College.

Dr. B.N. Tripathy welcomed the guests and commended the Commerce faculty for organizing the event. Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri, the program coordinator, provided an overview of the program and highlighted the contributions of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis to statistics and national development. He also emphasized the importance of statistics in fields of commerce and management, economics, science and technology, and the development of five-year economic plans.

Chief Guest Dr. Dhananjay spoke about the critical role of data in development planning at both the national and state levels. He also encouraged students to follow traffic rules, highlighting the significance of data analysis for road safety and the dire consequences of ignoring traffic regulations.

Guest of Honor Amod Vivek discussed various surveys conducted by NSSO, including the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI), Household Consumer Expenditure Survey (HCES), Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), and Consumer Price Index (CPI).

In his keynote address, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singh underscored the importance of data and the need for honest responses from survey participants to ensure accurate and effective planning.

More than 120 students participated in a variety of events such as PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, digital poster making, handmade posters, sketching, singing, and dancing. The celebration showcased the importance of data-driven decision making and honored the legacy of Prof. Mahalanobis in advancing the field of statistics.
