Karam Mahotsav spreads message of environment conservation

Jamshedpur, Sept 8: Kurmi Sena (Rashtriya) organized Karam Mahotsav at Gopal Maidan on Sunday, September 8.  Chief Guest for the occasion was Minister of Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs Shrawan Kumar. Addressing the gathering, Kumar said, People of Jharkhand have been nature worshippers and our ancestors knew that if plants and trees are cut than its adverse effect will be on our life and this was the reason they connected plants to our culture and tradition. Most of the festivals of Jharkhand are connected to trees, river and environment. 

Many cultural events were held during the Karam celebrations including Jhumur songs and traditional dances. The organizers also distributed 1,500 saplings of fruit bearing trees among guests and the visitors to the Mahotsav as a message for environment conservation.

At the event three eminent persons of the community who have excelled in their individual fields of pursuit were honoured with Kurmi Ratna Awards during the Karam Mahotsav. The recipients of the awards are DTO East Singhbhum Dinesh Ranjan, Patamda DSP Vijay Kumar Mahto and President�s Bravery Award winner Mantosh Mahto. Mantosh’s wife Anita took the award in absence of his husband.

Artistes from Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal comprising Urmila Mahto, Sunita Mahto, Lalchand Mahto, Rajesh Mahto, Julie and team presented traditional music and dance performances.

Other guests on the occasion were former Congress district President Ramashray Prasad, Santosh Mahto, Sanjay Thakur, Ratan Mahto, Dinesh Mahto, Hari Mukhi.
