Jamshedpur, December 17: Former Indian cricket captain and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev expressed joy over the growing enthusiasm for golf in India, comparing it to the passion for cricket. Speaking to the media at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Tuesday evening, where he participated in the PGTI Golf Putting Championship, Kapil thanked the people of Jamshedpur for their overwhelming support for the sport.

The Tata Steel Tour Championship 2024 was inaugurated on Tuesday morning at the Golmuri Golf Course. Kapil Dev, who is also the president of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), along with Tata Steel Vice President (Raw Materials) D.B. Sundar Raman, kicked off the event by playing the first shots and cutting a ceremonial cake. Speaking to reporters, Kapil shared his delight over the rising popularity of golf, which he noted was once considered a niche sport.

In the evening, Kapil Dev visited the JRD Tata Sports Complex to participate in the PGTI Golf Putting Championship. The presence of the cricketing icon attracted a large crowd, including families and young sports enthusiasts. Reflecting on the gathering, Kapil said, “It is heartening to see such passion for golf, comparable to the fervor seen in cricket matches.”
Commenting on the Indian cricket team, Kapil praised their current performance and expressed hope for their victory in the ongoing Test match.
